Field Trips 2024
Field trips (guided geological walks led by an expert) are graded gentle G (mainly on paths with no steep or rocky areas), moderate M (8-9 km with some rough ground and slopes) and hard H (10 km or more with steep slopes). Itineraries may have to be altered at short notice; check email or website before setting off.
Sunday 21st April A geology walk from Newbiggin-on-Lune to Bents and Brownber

Grade G The walk is across fields and maybe muddy at times. 2.5 miles 2.5 hours

Meet 9.30 National Trust Bowder Stone car park near Grange NY 253 168
Grade H /M attendees will have the option to visit the top of Castle Crag (weather permitting ) 6.5 miles approx 5 hours
Wednesday 12th June Wrynose Pass to Crinkle Crags

Meet 10.30am Three Shires Stone at the top of Wrynose Pass NY 277 027 (limited parking)
This is a joint field trip with CGS.
Grade M/H approximately 9km with an ascent of 450m
Wednesday 17th July Crummack Dale

Meet 10.30 Horton-in Ribblesdale, Park at side of road to quarry, Crag Hill Road SD 8046 7258 - -BD24 0HN - meeting point by the pedestrian crossing over the railway. Two cars will be left earlier in Austwick to shuttle drivers back later.

Grade G/M This field trip is on a designated footpath, and there is a £10 per person charge and includes free parking
Sunday 15th September Ice age walk - Orton Scar, Blasterfield and Dina Gill

Meet at 10am Parking off B6260 NY 632 107. 0.5 miles beyond cattle grid. Please arrive in good time to set off at 10am.
Grade G/M A circular walk moderate walk with some uneven ground and areas of limestone pavement 3miles (4.8km)
